My Intel Atom based ZBox PC that served as our web server has started to moan and groan. I saw that a new model of Raspberry Pi had been released so I decided to see how well it would work. I bought the 4GB model which now includes GB ethernet, two USB3.0 ports and dual micro HDMI. After allowing Raspbian to set itself up and make a few changes I started to install the LAMP server software. It was pretty straight forward although there were a few additional steps required to get my WordPress sites to run. In less than a day I switched over and this page is being served by a Raspberry Pi! It’s working so well I decided to get a nice case for it. All together this project cost less that $100 and it uses far less electricity. All the web files are on a 64GB usb3 flash drive and there is no apparent lag. In fact this server responds much faster than the ZBox it replaced.
